The Reasons for God Privacy Policy

Effective October 28, 2026

Reasons for God is my personal writing site. This policy explains what happens to your information when you read it, sign up for email through it, or write to me.

In short: I use Google Analytics to see which essays people read. If you sign up for email or send me a message, your information goes only where you sent it. This site has no ads, and I don’t sell your information.

What you give me

Email signups. The signup form at the bottom of every page sends your email address to Friends Following Jesus, along with the page you signed up on and any campaign tags in the link that brought you here. Friends Following Jesus is the Bible study ministry I write for Uncommon Pursuit, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. It sends you a confirmation email and, once you confirm, The Daily. From then on, the Friends Following Jesus privacy policy covers those emails, including how to unsubscribe.

Questions and messages. The Ask a Question and Contact forms send your name (if you give it), your email address, and your message to my inbox, delivered by Resend. Sending a message doesn’t add you to any mailing list. If I answer your question in an essay, I won’t use your name or any details that identify you, unless you ask me to use your first name.

What’s collected automatically

Google Analytics. I use Google Analytics to learn which essays people read and how they find them. It records the pages you visit, the site or link that brought you here, how you interact with pages (for example, scrolling and clicking links), your device and browser type, and your approximate location, which Google estimates from your IP address. Google Analytics uses cookies. Google explains how it uses this information at How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services, and you can stop it with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.

Server logs. Like nearly every website host, Vercel keeps short-lived logs of requests to this site, which include IP addresses. If a page fails to load, your browser reports the error and the page address to me, but not who you are.

Do Not Track. This site doesn’t change what it does in response to a browser’s Do Not Track signal.

Content from other companies

A few essays include YouTube videos. When a page with a video loads, YouTube receives your IP address and browser information and may set its own cookies.

Links to Amazon are affiliate links. If you buy something after following one, Amazon knows you came from this site, and I may earn a commission. Amazon and the other sites I link to have their own privacy policies.

Who I share information with

I don’t sell or rent your information. I share it only:

  • with Friends Following Jesus, when you sign up for email;
  • with the services that run this site: Vercel (hosting), Google (analytics), and Resend (delivering your messages to me); and
  • when the law requires it.

How long I keep information

Messages you send me stay in my email for as long as I need them to reply. Email subscriptions follow the Friends Following Jesus privacy policy.

Your choices

  • You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, or use Google’s opt-out add-on.
  • To see, correct, or delete anything you’ve sent me, email me and I’ll do it, wherever you live.

Children

This site isn’t directed to children under 13, and I don’t knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has sent me personal information, email me and I’ll delete it.

Visitors outside the United States

I’m based in the United States, and the services this site uses process information here. If you read from another country, your information is transferred to and processed in the United States.

Changes to this policy

When I change this policy, I’ll post the new version on this page and update the effective date at the top.
